Is It Safe to Travel to Cyprus

 

I was recently invited to visit the Mediterranean island of Cyprus on an assignment. My first reaction was to wonder if Cyprus to visit in a safe place where I had few memories of the recent problems in the field.

In fact, when I discussed the situation in more detail, I realized that Cyprus is an island, which is effectively divided in two. While the southern part of the island is governed by a Cypriot government, which promotes Greece, part of the north of the island is currently occupied.
The northern part of the island has a Turkish Cypriot government, after an invasion that took place in the 1970s. There is clearly a place that had some problems.
As a pawn in a game between Turkey and Cyprus are apparently not the safest place in the world, and it has not escaped me, that Cyprus is an important part of the Middle East, given its location (at the eastern end of the Mediterranean).


 
I decided to advisories about the safety of travel to the island and take the hearing of the Foreign Office - I would recommend you consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, either directly or via their website if you ever travel doubt about safety issues in all parts of the world.
The notice will be updated regularly and the first thing I discovered is that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not officially recognized by the United Kingdom. The Republic of Cyprus, on the other hand, is a full member of the European Union.

In terms of safety, presented the main concerns seemed to be that the terrorist attack (a threat to much of the rest of Europe as a whole) and the dangers caused by high temperatures.


 
It was also noted that Cyprus, as elsewhere in Europe, has its fair share of crime, but not to a greater extent than elsewhere on the continent.
One point that has certainly proved true when I arrived at the island, was that the Cypriots are not the best driver - careful on the roads.
Overall, Cyprus is a relatively safe place to travel. Take the usual precautions you when you travel and it appears that the opinion of the Foreign Office is that it should go.
