Muncaster Burg - A Trip Down Memory Lane.

Heute habe ich eine Reise in die Vergangenheit und hatte einen Tag auf Muncaster Castle von Ravenglass (in der Nähe Eskdale). Mutig Übertragung aller Menschen mit Eis und Kuchen im Café ich auf dem privaten Eingangstür klopfte an die Burg von Iona und Peter Pennington, die Muncaster laufen, und deren Familie gibt es seit über 800 Jahren lebte. Bruno (meine 4-jährige) war sehr aufgeregt, weil er dachte, wir würden die Königin zu treffen.
Iona und Peter mehr als den Mangel der Königin gemacht und wir hatten einen kleinen Rundgang Teil der Burg, wie sie für eine Hochzeit, die dort stattfinden am Nachmittag war bereiteten. Ich erinnerte mich an den Führungen habe ich zu geben und alle Geschichten, die ich verwendet, um über den Ort erzählen. Einer meiner Favoriten war die Dreiviertel-Länge Porträt von Lord Nelson. Früher war es einer von nur zwei in voller Länge Porträts in Existenz sein ... bis eines der Penningtons beschlossen, dass es besser aussehen in einem anderen Frame und schnitt ihm die Beine ab!
Eine weitere Erinnerung ich habe, ist von Phyllida Gordon-Duff-Pennington (der aktuelle Besitzer) bat mich, ihr zu helfen tragen eine Last von Teekannen von einem Ende des Schlosses zu einem anderen. Wie ich kämpfte sich durch das Schloss mit einem Arm voller Teekannen (vor allem in den dunklen als es gut ist, Energie zu sparen und Geld zu sparen) Ich fragte sie, was sie mit ihnen allen zu tun. Sie erzählte mir, sie hätten gerade erst aus der zu bewertenden. Ich fragte sie, wieviel sie wert und wurden dann fast ließ sie in Erstaunen, als sie mir die Figur!
Es ist 11 Jahre her, seit ich bei Muncaster gearbeitet und es hat auf eine ganze Menge bewegt, da ich dort links in 2000. Damals war ich in einem portacabin arbeiten, jetzt hat es schöne neue Büros, neuer Shop, neue Café, eine meadowvole Labyrinth für Kinder und mehrere Pfade durch den Wald. Es hat immer noch den fantastischen Blick über die Eskdale Tal und die Georgian Terrace gehen ist einfach schön, vor allem in dieser Zeit des Jahres, wenn die Rhododendren am besten sind.
Wir aßen zu Mittag in dem, was Bruno entschieden war ein wenig Kobold Haus vor dem Hintergrund des Eskdale Fells. Dies ist, wo ich ein Picknick haben am Tage, wo ich war, hier zu arbeiten verwendet. Mein Freund meinte, dass es der perfekte Ort zum Leben und das Universum, und zwar zu der Zeit las ich eine ganze Menge von Richard Dawkins war betrachten war. Die Kinder waren jedoch mehr daran interessiert, Running Wild um und um den Kobold Haus. Ich weiß nicht, wo sie ihre Energie aus, da sie bereits freien Lauf rund um den Spielplatz und auch um einen Teil des Waldes, wo wir einen Rhododendron Halskette aus der gefallenen Rhododendron Blütenblätter.
Im Wald gibt es ein Sino-Himalayan Weg voller Himalaya-Pflanzen entlang des Weges. Der Boden und das Klima rund um Ravenglass and Eskdale ist offenbar sehr ähnlich, was Sie im Himalaya zu finden. Einer der Gärtner bei Muncaster war für seine unerschrockene Werk-Jagd in China und Tibet bekannt. Bevor ich auf Muncaster arbeitete ich hatte keine Ahnung, dass es so einen Job als 'Pflanze Jäger ". Es ist wohl mehr als die renommierten Jäger, und tötete brachte den Schädel eines Menschen fressenden Tiger, Bruno war ganz in der Burg übernommen.
Ich weiß nicht, wo die Zeit ging - wir waren den ganzen Tag dort, aber immer noch nicht gelungen, die Eule und Bird of Prey Display sehen, erkunden den Wald oder gar vollständig Besuch im Café. Wir haben gerade noch Zeit, über die Meadowvole Maze mit seinen übergroßen Tiere warten auf dich töten zu besuchen. Die Kinder lieben es und sie antworteten die ganze Frage Blatt richtig. Der einzige Weg, bekommen wir sie verlassen konnte, war eine Reise in den Laden Versprechen, ihre (kostenlos) Preise zu sammeln. Dinge wirklich verändert haben, seit ich mein eigenes Unternehmen gestartet Betrieb eines Lake District Land Agentur.
Zurück im Auto mit einem Eis für die landschaftlich schöne Strecke nach Hause - nach unten Birkby Spur, in Eskdale über Hardknott Pass, dann Wrynose Pass, durch Ambleside, Grasmere Vergangenheit und zurück nach Keswick. Einfach schön. Über den Autor
Ich bin geboren und aufgewachsen in Eskdale und auf einem Bauernhof gebracht. Meine Familie, wo immer Verzweigung in neue Bereiche, die schließlich den Lake District Ferienhäuser Industrie geführt. Ich habe in diesen Fußstapfen und genießen Sie die Aufteilung der kleinen verborgenen Schätze des Lake District zu bieten hat.

Aujourd'hui j'ai pris un voyage dans le passé et a eu une journée au château de Muncaster par Ravenglass (près de Eskdale). Hardiment passant toutes les personnes ayant des glaces et des gâteaux au café, j'ai frappé à la porte d'entrée privée au château de Iona et Peter Pennington qui courent Muncaster, et dont la famille y ont vécu pendant plus de 800 ans. Bruno (mes 4 ans) était très excité, car il pensait que nous allions rencontrer la Reine.

Iona et Peter plus que compensé l'absence de la reine et nous avons eu un petit tour autour d'une partie du château où ils se préparaient à un mariage qui devait avoir lieu il ya dans l'après-midi. Je me suis souvenu des visites guidées J'avais l'habitude de donner et de toutes les histoires que j'ai utilisé pour parler de l'endroit. Un de mes favoris est le portrait en pied de trois-quarts de Lord Nelson. Il était l'un des deux seuls portraits en pied dans l'existence ... jusqu'à ce qu'un des Penningtons décidé qu'il serait mieux dans un cadre différent et lui couper les jambes!
Un autre souvenir que j'ai, c'est de Phyllida Gordon-Duff-Pennington (le propriétaire actuel) me demandant de l'aider à transporter une charge de théières, d'un bout du château à l'autre. Comme je me débattais dans le château avec une brassée de théières (principalement dans l'obscurité car il est bon de conserver l'énergie et économiser de l'argent) Je lui ai demandé ce qu'elle faisait avec eux tous. Elle m'a dit qu'ils avaient reviens tout juste d'être évalués. Je lui ai demandé combien ils avaient une valeur, puis presque laissé tomber de surprise quand elle m'a donné la figure!
C'est 11 ans que je travaillais à Muncaster et il a évolué beaucoup depuis que j'ai quitté ce pays en 2000. À l'époque, je travaillais dans un Portacabin, maintenant il a de beaux nouveaux bureaux, nouvelle boutique, nouveau café, un labyrinthe meadowvole pour les enfants et plus de chemins à travers les bois. Il a toujours la vue imprenable sur la vallée Eskdale et la promenade Georgian Terrace est juste magnifique, surtout en cette période de l'année où les rhododendrons sont à leur meilleur.
Nous avons déjeuné dans ce que Bruno a décidé était une petite maison de lutin dans le contexte de la lande Eskdale. C'est là que j'ai l'habitude d'avoir un pique-nique presque tous les jours quand je travaillais ici. Mon ami a fait remarquer que c'était l'endroit idéal pour contempler la vie et l'univers, et en effet, au moment où je lisais beaucoup de Richard Dawkins. Les enfants, cependant, étaient plus intéressés dans la gestion de cycle sauvage et autour de la maison de lutin. Je ne sais pas où ils puisent leur énergie dans puisqu'ils avaient déjà à l'état sauvage autour du terrain de jeu et également autour d'une partie de la forêt où nous avons fait un collier de rhododendrons des pétales tombés rhododendrons.
Dans les bois, il ya un sentier sino-himalayenne qui regorge de plantes himalayennes le long du chemin. Le sol et le climat autour de Ravenglass et Eskdale est apparemment très similaire à celle que vous trouvez dans l'Himalaya. L'un des jardiniers à Muncaster était renommé pour son usine de chasse intrepid en Chine et au Tibet. Avant je travaillais à Muncaster je n'avais aucune idée qu'il y avait un tel travail «chasseur végétales comme. Il est probablement plus prestigieux que le chasseur qui a tué et ramené le crâne d'un tigre mangeur d'hommes que Bruno était tout à fait pris dans le château.
Je ne sais pas où le temps a passé - nous étions là tous les jours, mais n'a toujours pas réussi à voir le hibou et d'oiseaux de proie, explorer les bois entièrement ou même visiter le café. Nous avons juste eu le temps sur de visiter le labyrinthe Meadowvole avec ses animaux surdimensionnés attente de vous tuer. Les enfants ont adoré et ils ont répondu à la feuille de toute la question correctement. La seule façon de les amener à quitter était de promettre un voyage à l'atelier pour recueillir leur (gratuit) prix. Les choses ont vraiment changé depuis que j'ai commencé ma propre entreprise la gestion d'une agence d'hôtes Lake District.
Retour dans la voiture avec une glace pour la maison route panoramique - à voie Birkby, dans Eskdale, plus Hardknott Pass, puis Wrynose Pass, à travers Ambleside, Grasmere passé et retour à Keswick. Tout simplement magnifique. A propos de l'Auteur
Je suis né et a grandi à Eskdale et a grandi sur une ferme en activité. Ma famille où toujours lancent dans de nouveaux domaines qui ont finalement conduit à l'industrie de Lake District chambres d'hôtes. J'ai suivi ses traces et aiment partager des petits bijoux cachés du Lake District a à offrir.
Today I took a trip down memory lane and had a day out at Muncaster Castle by Ravenglass (near Eskdale). Boldly passing all the people having ice-creams and cake at the café I knocked on the private entrance door at the castle of Iona and Peter Pennington who run Muncaster, and whose family have lived there for over 800 years. Bruno (my 4 year old) was very excited because he thought we were going to meet the Queen.

Iona and Peter more than made up for the lack of Queen and we had a small tour around part of the Castle as they were preparing for a wedding that was to take place there in the afternoon. I remembered the guided tours I used to give and all the stories I used to tell about the place. One of my favourites was the three-quarter length portrait of Lord Nelson. It used to be one of only two full length portraits in existence … until one of the Penningtons decided that it would look better in a different frame and cut his legs off!

Another memory I have is of Phyllida Gordon-Duff-Pennington (the current owner) asking me to help her carry a load of teapots from one end of the castle to another. As I struggled through the castle with an armful of teapots (mainly in the dark as it's good to conserve energy and save money) I asked her what she was doing with them all. She told me that they'd just come back from being valued. I asked her how much they were worth and then almost dropped them in surprise when she gave me the figure!

It's 11 years since I worked at Muncaster and it has moved on quite a lot since I left there in 2000. Back then I was working in a portacabin; now it has lovely new offices, new shop, new café, a meadowvole maze for children and more paths through the woods. It still has the fantastic views over the Eskdale valley and the Georgian Terrace walk is just beautiful, especially at this time of year when the rhododendrons are at their best.

We had lunch in what Bruno decided was a little pixie house against the backdrop of the Eskdale fells. This is where I used to have a picnic lunch most days when I was working here. My friend remarked that it was the perfect place to contemplate life and the universe, and indeed, at the time I was reading quite a lot of Richard Dawkins. The kids, however, were more interested in running wild round and round the pixie house. I don't know where they get their energy from as they had already run wild around the playground and also around part of the woods where we made a rhododendron necklace from the fallen rhododendron petals.

Within the woods, there is a Sino-Himalayan trail bursting with Himalayan plants along the way. The soil and climate around Ravenglass and Eskdale is apparently very similar to that which you find in the Himalayas. One of the gardeners at Muncaster was renowned for his intrepid plant-hunting in China and Tibet. Before I worked at Muncaster I had no idea that there was such a job as 'plant hunter'. It's probably more prestigious than the hunter who killed and brought back the skull of a man-eating tiger that Bruno was quite taken with in the Castle.

I don't know where the time went - we were there all day but still didn't manage to see the Owl and Bird of Prey display, explore the woods fully or even visit the café. We just about had time to visit the Meadowvole Maze with its oversized animals waiting to kill you. The kids loved it and they answered the whole question sheet correctly. The only way we could get them to leave was to promise a trip to the shop to collect their (free) prizes. Things really have changed since I started my own business running a Lake District cottages agency.

Back in the car with an ice-cream for the scenic route home - down Birkby lane, into Eskdale, over Hardknott Pass, then Wrynose Pass, through Ambleside, past Grasmere and back to Keswick. Just beautiful.
